The whole of mainland Portugal and the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores are today at very high risk of exposure to UV rays, according to the Met Office (IPMA).

The only exception to the across-the-map very high risk is the Azores island of Flores.

The Met Office advises wearing sunglasses with UV filter, hats and t-shirts as well as using parasols and sunscreen and avoiding children’s exposure to the Sun.

In related news, twenty-six municipalities in the districts of Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre and Faro are today at maximum fire risk due to the high temperatures.
